Effective Date: March 24, 2026  |  Last Updated: March 24, 2026

Note: This policy describes real data practices for appsabout.com. It has been drafted to align with applicable U.S. privacy law as of the effective date above. It should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before reliance in any compliance or litigation context. Laws change; review annually or whenever operations materially change.

1. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to appsabout.com and any subdomains or pages operated by AppsAbout ("we," "us," or "our"). It explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information about visitors to the site ("you").

This policy does not apply to third-party websites, including Amazon.com and Google, which have their own privacy practices. When you click a link and leave our site, the destination site's privacy policy governs.

2. Who We Are

AppsAbout is an editorial and affiliate website that publishes hardware guides, buying recommendations, and setup content for consumers. We earn commissions from qualifying purchases made through Amazon affiliate links. We are not a data broker, financial institution, health provider, or business that collects sensitive personal information as part of our primary operations.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • Device and browser identifiers — browser type and version, operating system, device type
  • Network information — IP address (truncated where technically feasible), approximate geographic location derived from IP address (country, region, city)
  • Usage data — pages visited, time on page, scroll depth, links clicked, referral source, session duration
  • Cookie identifiers — randomly assigned identifiers stored in cookies (see Section 7)

3.2 Information You Provide Voluntarily

We do not currently operate contact forms, account registration, or newsletter sign-ups. If you contact us by email at hello@appsabout.com, we will collect the information you include in that message.

3.3 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not knowingly collect: Social Security numbers; government-issued identification numbers; payment card or financial account numbers; precise geolocation data; biometric data; health or medical information; racial or ethnic origin; religious beliefs; sexual orientation; or union membership status.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Site analytics and improvement — understanding how visitors use the site so we can improve content, navigation, and performance
  • Security and fraud prevention — detecting and preventing abusive traffic, scraping, or other malicious activity via our hosting and CDN provider
  • Legal compliance — responding to lawful requests from government authorities, complying with applicable law, and enforcing our terms
  • Responding to inquiries — if you contact us by email, to respond to your message

We do not use your personal information to send you marketing messages, build individual behavioral profiles for advertising targeting by us, or make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for money. We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

5.1 Service Providers

We share data with vendors who help us operate the site, including:

  • Google LLC (Google Analytics 4) — analytics service provider. When you consent to analytics cookies, data about your visit is transmitted to Google and processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. Google may also process this data for its own purposes. We have enabled IP anonymization in our GA4 configuration.
  • Cloudflare / Hosting CDN — our hosting and content delivery infrastructure may process IP addresses and request logs for security and performance purposes.

5.2 Amazon Associates

We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click an Amazon affiliate link, you are redirected to Amazon.com, where Amazon's own privacy policy governs data collection. Amazon may set cookies on its own domain. We receive aggregate commission reports from Amazon but do not receive your personal purchase information.

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose personal information when required by law, court order, subpoena, or government investigation, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of AppsAbout, our users, or the public.

5.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users via a prominent notice on this site prior to any such transfer becoming effective.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies. A summary is below; see our Cookie Policy for full details and the complete cookie table.

  • Strictly Necessary — One first-party cookie (aa_consent) stores your cookie consent preferences. It is functional and cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics (optional) — Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*, _gid) are only set if you consent. These are opt-in on first visit or can be changed at any time via Cookie Settings in the footer.
  • Third-party affiliate — Amazon may set cookies on Amazon.com when you click our affiliate links. These are set by Amazon on Amazon's domain and are governed by Amazon's privacy policy.

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the control in the site footer, or by clearing cookies in your browser settings.

7. Targeted Advertising, Sale, and Sharing

We do not run interest-based advertising on our site. We do not share your personal information with advertising networks for the purpose of serving targeted advertisements to you across other websites.

However, because Google Analytics 4 has the technical capability to support Google advertising features, and because Google's data practices may constitute "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140(ah)), we treat analytics consent as an opt-in choice and provide a clear opt-out mechanism. If you do not consent to analytics cookies, or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we will not load Google Analytics.

We do not have actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

8. Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We recognize and honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. If your browser or browser extension sends a GPC signal when you visit our site, we will automatically treat it as an opt-out of analytics data collection and will not load Google Analytics for your session. Your choice will be stored in your browser's local storage. GPC recognition satisfies opt-out requirements under Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.135(d) and similar state laws that recognize universal opt-out mechanisms.

9. AI and Automated Tools

We may use AI-assisted tools in our internal editorial workflow (for example, AI writing assistance or content optimization tools). These tools may process content created by our team but do not receive or process your personal information. We do not use automated decision-making systems that produce legal or similarly significant effects on individual users.

If this practice changes — for example, if we deploy an AI chatbot that interacts with visitor input — we will update this policy accordingly.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

Right Description States
Know / AccessRequest disclosure of what personal information we have collected about youCA, CO, CT, DE, IA, MT, NE, NH, NJ, OR, TX, VA
DeletionRequest deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptionsCA, CO, CT, DE, IA, MT, NE, NH, NJ, OR, TX, VA
CorrectionRequest correction of inaccurate personal informationCA, CO, CT, DE, MT, NE, NH, NJ, OR, TX, VA
Opt-Out of Sale/SharingOpt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we address this via analytics opt-out and GPC)CA, CO, CT, MT, NE, NH, NJ, OR, TX, VA
Opt-Out of ProfilingOpt out of profiling in furtherance of automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effectsCO, CT, MT, NE, NH, NJ, OR, TX, VA
Non-DiscriminationWe will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rightsAll states with active laws

Note on thresholds: Some state privacy laws apply only to businesses that exceed certain revenue or data-processing thresholds (e.g., Virginia VCDPA, Colorado CPA, Texas TDPSA). We include rights language for all applicable states as a matter of good faith and transparency regardless of whether we are technically subject to every statute listed. California's CCPA/CPRA applies to for-profit entities that meet certain thresholds; if we do not currently meet those thresholds, we nonetheless honor these rights voluntarily where operationally feasible.

11. How to Exercise Your Rights

To submit a privacy rights request, email us at hello@appsabout.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request" and include:

  • The right(s) you wish to exercise
  • Your state of residence
  • Enough information to allow us to identify the data we may have collected about you (e.g., general timeframe of visits, browser type, approximate location)

We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 days (extendable by 45 additional days with notice where permitted by law).

Because we collect minimal personal information (primarily analytics data associated with random cookie identifiers, not names or email addresses), we may not be able to verify or fulfill certain requests if we cannot link available data to you with reasonable certainty. We will explain this if it applies to your request.

12. Verification of Requests

We will make reasonable efforts to verify your identity before fulfilling access or deletion requests. For this site, because we do not maintain accounts or collect names, verification is inherently limited. We may ask for information about your browser, approximate location, or timeframe of visits to attempt a match. If we cannot reasonably verify your identity, we may deny the request and explain why.

13. Appeals

If we decline to act on your rights request, we will inform you of the reason in writing. You may appeal our decision by emailing hello@appsabout.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Appeal". We will review appeals and respond within 60 days. If your appeal is denied, and you reside in a state that provides for it (e.g., Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia), you may contact your state Attorney General to submit a complaint.

14. Authorized Agents

California residents may designate an authorized agent to submit requests on their behalf. We may require written proof of authorization and may verify the consumer's identity directly to protect against fraudulent requests.

15. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy:

  • Google Analytics data — retained in Google Analytics for up to 14 months (we have configured a reduced retention period from GA4's default). Google's own data practices may result in data being retained longer under their policies.
  • Server/CDN logs — IP address logs retained by our hosting and CDN provider for up to 30 days for security purposes, subject to that provider's retention policy.
  • Email correspondence — emails sent to hello@appsabout.com are retained as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the inquiry, generally no more than 3 years.
  • Consent records — stored client-side in your browser's local storage. You may clear them at any time by clearing your browser data.

16. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, destruction, or alteration, including HTTPS encryption for all site traffic and reliance on reputable infrastructure providers. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We do not store sensitive personal data (such as financial or health information) on our servers.

17. Children and Minors

Our site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not direct content to children under 13. Our site is not subject to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) as a primary-directed site; however, if we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it. Contact us at hello@appsabout.com if you have concerns.

We also do not knowingly sell or share personal information of consumers between the ages of 13 and 16 without their affirmative authorization.

18. Third-Party Websites

Our site contains links to third-party websites including Amazon.com, product manufacturer sites, and other external resources. When you click these links, you leave our site and the third party's privacy policy governs. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party website.

19. California-Specific Disclosures

This section applies to California residents and is provided pursuant to the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (collectively, "CCPA/CPRA"), Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1798.100 et seq.

Categories of Personal Information Collected in the Last 12 Months

  • Identifiers (e.g., IP address, cookie IDs) — collected via analytics
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information (e.g., browsing history on our site, pages visited) — collected via analytics
  • Geolocation data (approximate, derived from IP; not precise) — collected via analytics

Purposes of Collection

Site analytics and improvement; security and fraud prevention; legal compliance.

Categories of Third Parties with Whom We Share Personal Information

Analytics service providers (Google); infrastructure/hosting providers; law enforcement or government upon lawful request.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell personal information for money. We may share personal information with Google in connection with analytics services in a manner that may constitute "sharing" under CPRA. You may opt out of this sharing by: (1) declining analytics cookies when the consent banner appears; (2) using the link in the footer at any time; or (3) enabling the Global Privacy Control in your browser.

Sensitive Personal Information

We do not collect or use sensitive personal information as defined by CPRA (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140(ae)).

Shine the Light

California Civil Code § 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about disclosure of personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes.

20. Other State Supplemental Disclosures

Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nebraska, Delaware, and Iowa may have rights under their respective state privacy laws. The consumer rights described in Section 10 and the exercise procedures in Section 11 are intended to satisfy the notice requirements of these laws. Where a specific state law requires an appeal process, Section 13 applies. If you have questions about your state-specific rights, contact us at hello@appsabout.com.

21. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, post a notice on the site. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
